Rhod has signed up to present The UKâs Best Part-Time Band, a nationwide search for the best non-professional bands in the country.
In this new prime-time BBC Four series, Rhod embarks on a road trip across the UK joined by respected musicians from much-loved bands.
The brand new series is a celebration of normal people living normal lives, yet hiding incredible musical talents. The competition was open to amateurs who do not make a professional living as musicians. More than 1200 bands applied; playing rock to reggae, ska to skiffle and everything in between.
The show shines a spotlight on, and celebrates the brilliant music-making across the UK. The series will explore just what makes a great band – what are the unique elements, the riffs and rhythms, that go to make up a bandâs sound, whatâs the winning dynamic of a successful band, and does creative tension produce great music?
The series will also feature the day-to-day lives of the band members. Viewers will discover what inspires them – what has kept them playing all these years, and where their love of music comes from. Itâs no run of the mill talent show â itâs a rock ânâ roll documentary about a talent competition.
Rhod and the musical legends have trawled the country, hearing talented part-time bands performing in rehearsal spaces, pubs, barns, and bedrooms; all competing to earn a place in the regional heats.
Each band is ultimately battling for a place in the Grand Final to be broadcast on BBC Two. One act will finally be crowned âThe UKâs Best Part-Time Bandâ and will perform at a BBC Music event in 2016.
On Thursday 7th January 2016, the show heads north to Sheffield, with guest judge Joy Division and New Order legend Peter Hook.
